Wouldn't mind Remi TBH. Think he's mustard and would do well in a slav team.

Re: A Striker - Best of the Rest?
2 years of Bacca being our main man, followed by 2 years of him being a great experienced head in the team or recouping some of our cash with a gig in China.

That is a great deal for this club. We aren't going for Icardi because its not realistic now. If Bacca fires us to the Champions League and to the point where we can play with the big boys, he'll have done his job.

A bird in the hand and all that...get it done, get him in.

"and we are only likely to get 3 or so good years out of him."

When was the last time we actually got that much out of a striker anyway? PDC maybe, and he was a year older than Bacca when we got him.

Re: A Striker - Best of the Rest?
Far Cough, you've just answered your own question about Lacazette. Hear that a lot of French fans hate Deschamps for using Gignac. He's just a manager who likes a target man.

Re: A Striker - Best of the Rest?
Long gone are the days when you had a player for more than 5 years it seems. Strikers even less so.

As others mention, the Chinese league may provide some financial protection on an older player (residua value) so not quite the risk it was if paying over the odds for 30 something players.

Also, the marginal revenue on offer for Euro Champs League footie placing and even top 6 position in the league offsets what might be seen as overpaying? Speculate to accumulate and all that?

If Payet is so good how come he couldn't get in the french side 5 months ago....

Because Deschamps is an idiot, albeit a few steps up from fucking Hodgson

Re: A Striker - Best of the Rest?

I would be happy if he scored 20 goals a season for 3 years, but its a big outlay for the time he has left at the top.

Why not go for a younger player with a similar scoring record that could be here longer?

---

If he scores 20 goals a season for 3 seasons in a row he'll be worth twice the £25m quoted price. Even Sergio Aguero hasn't scored 20+ goals a season for the last 3 seasons.

The reason we can't find a younger player with a similar record is because Bacca's record is over a successful 10 year playing career. Depending how young but generally a 22 year old will probably only have a few years experience.

You can't always find the 'perfect' transfer. It looks like we have 2 young strikers for the future in Fletcher (if it goes through) and Martinez.

There is nothing wrong with paying up for a player in their prime.

Although it ain't my dough so as long as whoever we end up with bangs them in then it doesn't really matter.

Re: A Striker - Best of the Rest?
This could be wishful thinking but not long back I read we were interested in Mauro Icardi although not seen much recently. I would love us to go all out for him.
As good as Bacca is, at 29 he won’t be getting any better and we are only likely to get 3 or so good years out of him.
MI could lead the line for the next decade. Sullivan was banging on about spending 30 million on a striker before the (reported) offers for Valencia and Sakho. Lump it all together and bid £50m+ for Icardi.

If Lacazette is so good, why couldn't he get in the French side at the Euros, I mean even the useless Gignac got in there ahead of him?

We're waiting to wrap up a deal for Shaun Wright-Phillips so we can announce the Fletch and SWP deals together.

Re: A Striker - Best of the Rest?
The other question is why can't Fletcher stake a claim?
People are pushing for Burke to be given a run based on good performances in League 1 so why not Fletcher?
